America’s 250th Anniversary

The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) has adopted a resolution to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States. This resolution reaffirms the state’s commitment to the core principles of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution.

In conjunction with this, USBE has launched the America250 Utah Essay and Art Contest, encouraging students to explore the meaning of America. Students in grades 5, 8, and 9-12 are invited to submit original essays or visual artwork responding to the question: “What does America mean to you?”

We are excited to share that Kane County School District students will be actively participating in the America 250 commemoration through:

  • Writing essays.
  • Attending assemblies.
  • Taking part in USBE opportunities

Significant scholarships are being offered for the contest, with six top winners receiving $1,000 each, and an additional 130 students receiving $250 scholarships. Submissions are due by March 30, 2026, and award recipients will be announced in June 2026.

Additionally, our district’s teachers will be accessing valuable classroom resources for this initiative from the official Utah website, which can be found here:  america250.utah.gov/education
