Measles Letter for Parents

Dear Parents and Guardians,
I want to share an important health update with you. Measles cases have recently been reported in Southwest Utah and in Mohave County, Arizona, which are counties near Kane School District. While there is no immediate concern within our school district, this is a good opportunity for families to review their child’s vaccination records and stay informed.
Vaccination Recommendations
The MMR vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella) is the best protection against measles. Children are considered fully vaccinated when they have received two doses:

  • 1st dose: between 12–15 months of age
  • 2nd dose: between 4–6 years of age
If you are unsure of your child’s vaccination status, please contact your healthcare provider, check the Utah State Immunization Information System (USIIS), or use the Docket app.
Guidance for Students Not Fully Vaccinated
  • Families with children who are not up to date or who have an exemption are encouraged to speak with their healthcare provider about options.
  • According to the local health department, students who are not fully immunized may need to stay home from school and activities for 21 days following an exposure to measles. This is a standard precaution to limit the spread of illness.
Our school will be working closely with the local health department and following their recommendations. This partnership helps us respond appropriately while keeping our school community supported and safe.
If your child develops a fever and rash, please keep them home and call your healthcare provider for guidance. This allows your provider to give the best advice and helps reduce the spread of illness.
Thank you for taking a few minutes to review your child’s records and for your continued partnership in keeping our students healthy. Please reach out if you have any questions—I am here as a resource for your family.
