On September 8, 2020, the Kane County School Board reviewed a Kane County petition to request for Governor Herbert to approve modifications to the statewide public health order. The Kane County petition is simply requesting to allow the Southwest Public Health Department to determine which preventive measures should be implemented in the local region. Kane County Board of Education gave the directive to move forward with the Kane County petition in an effort allow decisions to be made at the regional level. It is important to note that Kane County School District is still required to follow and comply the Utah Public Health Order and Governor Hebert’s Executive Order 2020-59 requiring face masks to be worn in state facilities including school buildings and as such, the school district does not currently have the autonomy to waive or give exemptions to the mask mandate.
