Reading Progress Reports

According to the Utah Code, Reading on Grade Level is defined as a student scoring
at or above the benchmark for their grade (K-6). At the start of each school year, we
assess all elementary students to establish a baseline benchmark for their reading
progress.

As a district, our goal is to have 80% of 3rd-grade students reading at or above
benchmark by 2030. Last year, 71% of Kane County School District’s 3rd graders
reached this standard.

To keep you informed about your child’s progress, all elementary schools will soon mail
home Beginning-of-Year reading progress reports. Additionally, some parents will
receive a letter requesting a meeting during Parent-Teacher Conferences to develop
an Individualized Reading Plan (IRP). This plan outlines specific interventions to
support your child both at school and at home.

If you do not receive a letter in the mail for your child’s literacy benchmarks, we
encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher to discuss their reading growth.
When schools and families work together, students achieve the highest learning gains.
