The Foundation’s Role
The Kane Education Foundation (KEF) is a nonprofit organization that serves students, parents and teachers in Kane County by implementing its strategic plan. While KEF is legally and operationally separate from the Kane County School District, we coordinate closely with the District’s Superintendent:
- To make sure we understand the educational needs, trends and priorities for students, parents and teachers
- To make sure we provide services and support that the District is not able to provide
How We Implement Our Strategic Plan
KEF’s Board of Directors is comprised of Kane citizens who have a passion for our Mission, Vision and one or more of the focus areas in our Strategic Plan. Our Board is a working Board: each member leads a focus area, a program, a part of our marketing activities, or a part of our fundraising efforts.
The Board is supported by our Executive Director and our Program Coordinator. These paid part-time staff members enable consistent detailed attention to our programs and services, marketing and communications activities, and fundraising efforts.
Finally, KEF benefits from the support of numerous additional volunteers.
How We Fund Our Programs and Services
Nearly 95% of the funding for KEF’s programs and services is raised from charitable contributions received from generous individuals, businesses and foundations. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, so contributions are deductible for federal and state income tax purposes to the extent allowed by law. Every member of the Board contributes both time and financial support to help KEF achieve its goals.
