Adult Education and Family Literacy Week

Governor Cox has declared September 15-21 as Adult Education and Family Literacy Week in Utah to provide awareness of over 43 million adults in the United States who cannot read, write or do math above a third-grade level. The Governor’s declaration also states low literacy and English language proficiency are often barriers to employment.

The Kane County School District has a phenomenal Adult Education program thanks to the program coordinator Libby Button.  We offer an Adult High School Completion – a program for adults who have already attained a ninth-grade level of academic skills, but do not have a high school diploma or GED. We provide instruction in the Utah Core Curriculum to fulfill the credits required for graduation.  Upon successful completion of the requirements, students will receive an Adult Education Secondary Diploma (the equivalent of a high school diploma) issued by the Kane County School District.

GED preparation is also available to assist in access to instruction, materials, and practice tests that help prepare individuals to take the tests

Kane County School District currently has 11 students enrolled and actively working towards either the GED or the Adult Education Secondary Diploma. We have had 12 graduates from January 2024 to present. 7 with GED Diploma and 5 with Adult Education Secondary Diplomas.

We currently have 8 inmates enrolled from Kane County Corrections and 7 who have completed their Adult Education Secondary Diplomas in the past year.
