In September, Governor Cox allocated $1.2 million to address school lunch debt across the state. Cox redirected funds from the American Rescue Plans to the Governor’s Emergency Educational Relief Program, which in turn created a new grant opportunity for districts to apply for to address outstanding student school lunch debt. The Kane County School District applied for the one-time grant and received $5,243, which will cover the entire amount of outstanding school lunch debt in the district and removed all outstanding balances as of September 15th. We would also like to thank the many anonymous donations we receive from the community to help our students with school lunch debt.
