The Utah State Board of Education recently released the percentage of 3rd-grade students Reading on Grade Level (ROGL) for the end of the 2025 school year. ROGL is defined as a student scoring above the state benchmark on the end-of-year reading assessment and obtaining a composite score of 405 or higher on the end-of-year Acadience Reading Assessment. The state average was 48.7% of students ROGL. We are happy to report that 3rd-grade students in Kane County School District earned 61.9% which places us as the second-highest district in the state of Utah behind Park City. I would like to sincerely thank our faculty, staff, and parents for their continued support of our students in early literacy. Reading on grade level by the end of third grade is a pivotal milestone in a child’s academic journey. It marks the shift from “learning to read” to “reading to learn,” enabling students to access more complex subjects and ideas across the curriculum. Students who read at grade level are more likely to be successful in school and graduate from high school. Kane County School District has a goal of 70% of our students reading on grade level by 2027. We appreciate the collaborative efforts to ensure our students unlock lifelong learning opportunities. If you have questions about your student’s reading level, you are welcome to contact their classroom teacher.
