In the June 9th school board meeting, architectural and general contractor experts presented the results of the soil samples taken at both the Ranchos and current downtown locations being considered for the new KES building. Based on core soil samples, the estimated costs for the soil excavation at the current downtown site is approximately $1,987,000 to address the collapsible soil voids. In comparison, to address the blue clay at the Ranchos property, the estimated cost is approximately $1,845,000. We recognize many additional variables exist with both locations, but when cost comparisons for soil replacement beneath the building pad and hardscapes are compared, the cost for both locations are nearly the same when compared to the overall cost of a $20 million dollar building. The Kane County School Board will continue to collected additional information and data relating to both locations to come to a decision in the near future.
